The Fall

The Fall

She reached

she couldn’t help it

his words were so true

so very obviously true

so lined with beckoning truth

aligned with all she wanted to be true

compelling enough to wedge doubt into her heart

like a splintering and a breaking

Her first love had lied

surely he had lied

surely this new truth

this shiny new truth-teller

was the very epitome of love

It felt so right

so good

so true

She reached

the bottom of her soul

and found it clanging empty in the dark

newly empty

like an absence of something

of Someone

Someone that just a moment ago had been

her very breath

her first love
